Had a killer day in the studio V69 Recording with Joey, Jason, and Stefen tracking for the new Clubber Lang Portland Maine album. Got the basic tracks for 4 more songs done! Lots of fun. We’ve been slowly but steadily writing, rehearsing, demoing, recording and re-recording new material for our 2nd album. We are happy with our first album, You Will Never Be Defeated, but on YWNBD we really went for it on the production side. Lots of crazy samples and segues, and many layers of instruments and voices. As Joey said, “You only get one chance to make a 1st album, so you might as well throw in everything but the kitchen sink”. And boy did we.
Our second record (yet to be titled) is going to be more stripped down and organic. We’re trying to get the structure and feel of the songs refined so that when they’re recorded for the record they will be the best that we can possibly make them. That’s one of the reasons it’s taking a little longer than we would like. But we’re looking at the process like a someone who makes wine. It takes time to make it right and it gets better with time. We are really excited about how the songs sound so far. The writing prowess of the band has been bolstered by the addition of bassist Jason Marshall. His playing ability, melodic and rhythmical sensibilities and flair for the fun twists and turns in an arrangement really compliment Joey Nashs’ writing style, amazing riffs, song ideas and playing abilities. Throw in Stefen’s sick drumming and his penchant for mapping the perfect beats and jump off points and it’s a pretty formidable writing group. For me (Sean) I’m doing my best to write lyrics, melodies and harmonies that are worthy of being recorded alongside my band mates incredi ble ideas. It’s quite the challenge. I keep pushing myself to make my parts the best I’ve ever written. I want to have a finished body of work on this album that my band mates will admire. I really hope we finish it sometime this month, or next.
